High Performance Backups

Yes, that's its primary role. We use R1Soft as the backup manager over our servers.

We like to keep it simple. Our product works at the block level, allowing us to support thousands of customers running Hyper-V, XEN, VMware, Virtuozzo, and OpenVZ. No tricks needed. You can find more specific information for each environment below: In Hyper-V you can either install one agent on the hardware node and protect all the virtual machines, (but not be able to do more granular restore than the .VHD file), or you can install the agent into each virtual machine and be able to do file level restore or BMR. R1Soft works on XenSource and Citrix XenServer and can be used to provide Continuous Data Protection™ for both native and hosted type Hypervisions. We install our agent on the DomU (guest) and not the DomO (host). XenSource - Windows domUs XenSource - Linux domUs Cintrix XenServer - Windows domUs Cintrix XenServer - Linux domUs We can only deploy agents inside the guest virtual machines. We do not have the ability to backup to ESX or ESXi Host. 1 Agent backs up 1 Virtual Machine. We can only install the CDP Agent onto the Host Hardware Node which backs up the individual virtual containers. 1 Agent backs up many. OpenVZ is a free version of Virtuozzo with similar limitations.
We support various flavours of hardware virtualisation. If the virtualisation presents a block device for storage, we can back it up. Different types of hardware virtualisation include: Full virtualisation: Almost complete simulation of the actual hardware to allow software, which typically consists of a guest operating system, to run unmodified. Partial virtualisation: Some but not all of the target environment is simulated. Some guest programs, therefore, may need modifications to run in this virtual environment. Paravirtualisation: A hardware environment is not simulated; however, the guest programs are executed in their own isolated domains, as if they are running on a seperate system. Guest programs need to be specifically modified to run in this environment.

This new, highly-anticipated feature provides hosting providers with a simple means of replicating backup data across Server Backup Manager (SBM) servers regardless of their geographic location. Replicated site data along with the SBM System Backup can be used to restore an entire SBM server, including its archived data, server configuration, and multi-tenant accounts.

This release further improves the auditing and logging capabilities of the product by adding support for logging file downloads from archived data. File downloads are logged as events and will help administrators monitor activity and archived data usage. Based upon user feedback, we have also improved the file download self-service functionality by adding it to the activities prevented by the Server Backup Manager Maintenance Mode. This change compliments further enhancement of the product's Maintenance Mode capabilities.
Our supported platforms are constantly evolving and changing to meet the demands of the market. Red Hat Linux based OS distributions have adopted new standards for their default configuration of the beloved Ext4 filesystem. They have adopted an option to allow for even larger filesystems in excess of 16TiB! Our support of the Ext4 filesystem support has been expanded to include this 64-bit feature. Now you can backup and restore this new configuration of the Ext4 filesystem as easily as before.
With the Server Backup Manager 5.14 release, R1Soft's now fully supports Protected Machines running the XFS file system. In addition to our previous XFS support for Bare Metal Restore, R1Soft now provides complete file and folder restore support. The XFS filesystem is a high-performance 64-bit journaling file system and is the de facto preferred choice for modern Linux systems.
