How Do I Transfer My Domain to 365hosts

The method you need to use, to transfer your domain to 365hosts, differs by the type of TLD to the domain is. General top level TLD such as .org, .net and .com use a different process than .UK domains. Please note, if you are unsure of your ability to complete this process yourself, you can always contact the 365Hosts tech support team for some help.

Preparing to Transfer .COM, .ORG, .NET, Etc.

One thing to note, before following this process, is that when you transfer one of these domains, the domain will need to be renewed as part of the process. So be ready to pay the renewal fee when asked.

There are a number of conditions that must be true, before you can successfully transfer your domain, and these are:

  • Your domain should not have been purchased, or previously transferred with the last 60 days.
  • You have not changed the contact name for the domain registrant in the last 60 days.
  • You have not changed the company name of the domain registrant in the last 60 days.
  • Both the registrant's email address and the domain admin email address must be valid. Note, you will need access to both of these email accounts.
  • All registration fees are paid and up to date.

How to Begin the Transfer of .COM, .ORG, .NET, Etc.

To transfer your domain away from the registrar that currently manages it, you will need to contact them and do the following:

  1. Ask your registrar to unlock your domain (you may be able to do this yourself if you have access to some form of domain control panel).
  2. As for your EPP code, this will authorise the transfer.
  3. Make sure that both the admin email address and registrant email address are valid, and that you can receive an email to both accounts.
  4. If you currently use whois privacy to protect your identity, you will now need to disable it.

Completing the Transfer of .COM, .ORG, .NET, Etc.

Once you have completed all of the steps above relating to your current domain registrar, you now need to log in to the client area at 365hosts. Once you have, perform the following steps.

  1. 1.    Select Manage Domains
  2. Select Register or Transfer a Domain
  3. Type in the domain name, and then click on the search icon
  4. Once the search has come back with your domain name, select Transfer
  5. Type in the EPP code that your old registrar gave you.
  6. 6.    Select Add to cart
  7. You will then need to pay for the transfer, so check out your basket.
  8. The domain admin contact email address will now receive an email. Open this email, locate the transfer authorisation link and click it.
  9. The website you are taken to when you click the link above, will walk you through the process of completing the next step, follow the instructions.
  10. You transfer is now complete. Approval should be received within 10 days.
  11. Switch whois privacy protection back on once you are sure the domain has been transferred.

How to Transfer .UK Domains

Transferring a .UK domain is a lot simpler than transferring .ORG, .NET, .COM. etc. However, you will still need to make sure you have all of the pre-requisites covered that were detailed in the first section of this knowledgebase article. Once you are sure these are all in order, log in to the client area at 365hosts and perform the following steps:

  1. Select Manage Domains
  2. Select Register or Transfer a Domain
  3. Type in your domain name, and then click on the search icon
  4. Once search returns your domain name, select Transfer
  5. 5.    Get in touch with the old registrar of your domain, and as them if they can change the IPS tag of the domain to 365HOSTS. If your old domain registrar provides you with a domain control panel, you may be able to complete this step yourself. Your transfer is now finished.
  6. If you were using whois privacy protection, you can now enable it again if you wish.
