Like most answers to questions in life, how much RAM you need and which plan to choose depends on the situation you're in and what you are looking for.

Remember that you can always upgrade or downgrade your plan at a later time and you only have to pay the difference between the two plans. Upgrades and downgrades will be automatically applied to your existing server. You do not have to order a new one.

Here is a chart to help you out. If you have any further questions, you are always welcome to ask them in the live chat or with a ticket.

Vanilla (including Spigot, Paper and other "Vanilla" versions)

(Updated guide for Minecraft 1.19)

METRIC RAM SUGGESTED
Players Add 2GB of RAM for the first 5 players, then 1GB per 10 additional players.
Plugins Add 1GB of RAM per 20 plugins
(Some plugins are far more resource-intensive than others, so depending on which plugins you're using, you may need additional memory. Some very resource-intensive plugins are: Dynmap, WorldEdit, MCMMO, Factions, and many minigame plugins.)
Worlds  Add 1GB of RAM per 2GB world size on disk
(The size of your worlds and amount of players exploring them heavily influence the impact of a world.)

BungeeCord

We recommend our 2GB RAM plan for BungeeCord. Typically you won't need any more than this unless you're hosting in excess of 300-500+ players at one time. BungeeCord simply forwards the traffic from players to one of the servers in your network, and therefore typically won't use a large amount of RAM. However, if you are running plugins on your BungeeCord instance, you may need a larger plan to support keep up.

Below are our recommended sizes for BungeeCord based on the number of plugins:

AMOUNT OF PLUGINS RECOMMENDED SERVER PLAN
1-15 BungeeCord Plugins 2GB RAM
16+ BungeeCord Plugins 3GB RAM or higher

Modpacks, Forge, Technic, Feed The Beast or Any Other Modded Server

We recommend at least 4GB of RAM for any modded server. Modded servers are very resource-intensive and use large amounts of RAM. If you plan on installing many mods or large modpacks, you may need to add even more RAM to your server to prevent lag.

Bedrock Edition

Bedrock Edition is about equivalent to the Vanilla chart above.

Crossplay

Crossplay servers are equal to the Vanilla chart above +1GB of RAM per 10 players.
