This tutorial assumes you already have WinSCP running on your computer, and connected to a remote server

Now let’s learn how to upload or transfer files from our computer to a remote server

Select the files we want to upload here in our local computer window…

Hold down the CTRL key to select multiple files for uploading

Click Copy

Click Copy again

Highlight the file mrteng.log and delete it

That’s it! We’ve successfully uploaded the selected files to the remote server, and they are now also displayed here in the remote server window

To demonstrate how to download files, we’ll first remove a file from our local computer…

Click Delete

Now let’s download the file mrteng.log from the remote server to our local computer. Select the file here

Then click Copy

Click Copy again

There it is!

This tutorial assumes you already have WS_FTP and have it running on your computer, but not connected to another server

Now let’s learn how to upload or transfer files from our computer to a remote server

Click Open a Remote Connection

Select the site we want to connect to, then click Connect

That’s it! We’ve successfully established an FTP connection with Demo345.com, and now have two windows open…. our local computer files are displayed in the window on the left…..

….. and our remote server files in Demo345.com are displayed in the window here on the right

Let’s navigate to the public_html folder

It is in here that we want to upload some files

Select the files we want to upload here in our local computer window…..

When ready, click the Upload icon here to start transferring the files to our remote server

Let’s first open a local browser window….. click File

This tutorial assumes you already have SmartFTP and have it running on your computer, but not connected to another server

Now let’s learn how to upload or transfer files from our computer to a remote server

Then click New Local Browser

A new local browser window opens, and we’re currently looking in a Demo Files folder on our computer

There are two ways to establish a connection with a remote server…..

1. Enter the remote server name, username and password in these boxes here…..

….. then click the green arrow button here…..

2. Or we can select a pre-defined remote server from our list of favorites….. which is what we’ll do now

Locate the pre-defined remote server in our Favorites

That’s it! We’ve successfully established an FTP connetion with Demo345.com, and now have two windows open…. our local computer files are displayed in the window on the right…..

….. and our remote server files in Demo345.com are displayed in the window on the left

Let’s navigate to the public_html folder

It is in here that we want to upload some files

Click the Sites menu here

Click Site Manager

Select the site we want to connect to

Then click Connect

That’s it! We’ve successfully established an FTP connection with Demo345.com, and now have two windows open…. our local computer files are displayed in the window on the left…..

….. and our remote server files in Demo345.com are displayed in the window here on the right

Let’s navigate to the public_html folder

It is in here that we want to upload some files

Select the files we want to upload here in our local computer window…..

When ready, click the Commands menu here…..

….. then click Upload

Click Yes to confirm

Now let’s download the interest.htm file from the remote server to our local computer

There it is!

Click the Sites menu

This tutorial assumes you already have FlashFXP and have it running on your computer, but not connected to another server

Now let’s learn how to upload or transfer files from our computer to a remote server

Then select Site Manager..

Click the Close button

Before connecting to a remote server, we want to double check it’s settings

This is the site we want to connect to

Once we’re sure all the settings on the right are correct (ftp.demo1234.com, username and password)…..

To establish a connection to a remote server, click this lightning bolt icon

Locate the site we want to connect to…. click Demo Webs

Then select demo1234.com website

Double Click the Demo Files folder to navigate to that location

Success! We’ve established a connection with the remote website at demo1234.com

This right window lists the files and folders on the remote server (or website)

While this left window lists the files and folders in our local computer

Select favorite.htm

Now all the files located inside the Demo Files folder are listed in this left window

Right click the file name

Then click Transfer in the drop down menu

That’s it! The file favorite.htm has been uploaded to the remote server, and can now be seen here

Now let’s create a new folder on the remote server…. right click anywhere in this right window

Then select the Make Folder option

Type the name of the new folder here

Then click OK

There’s the new folder

Double click the new folder to navigate into it

Select index.htm

You can see here that we are now viewing the inside of the new folder, Test Folder

Now let’s upload a file to this new folder…..

This is the transfer icon…. let’s click it now

Instead of right clicking the file name, let’s transfer the file by using the transfer icon…..

Now let’s navigate back to the public_html folder

Click the Parent Directory icon

the file has been uploaded, and is now listed here in the remote server window

Now select several files to upload at once by clicking the first file, holding down the SHIFT, and the selecting the last file to be uploaded

Then click the transfer icon

Select a file to transfer

All 4 files have been uploaded, and are now listed here in the right window, the remote server contents window

We can also transfer files from the remote server, back to our computer

Then click this transfer icon

Click Overwrite

Since the file already exists at the destination, we have to confirm that we indeed want to transfer the file and overwrite the existing file

We’ve successfully transferred the file back to our computer

Now let’s quickly learn how to change the permissions of a file on the server

Select the file we want to change the permissions (or attributes) of…..

Then right click the file name

Select the Attributes (CHMOD) option

Now change the permissions as per your requirements

When finished, click OK

To rename a folder, right click it…..

Notice the file permissions have been changed, and are displayed here

Then select Rename from the drop down menu

Enter the new name for the folder

When you’re finished working and want to disconnect from the remote website or server…..

Click the disconnect icon here

The folder has been renamed

Setting your preferences in FlashFXP

Setting your preferences in FlashFXP

Click Options at the top of the FlashFXP window

This tutorial assumes you already have FlashFXP and have it running on your computer, but not connected to another server

Now let’s learn how to set preferences in FlashFXP

Then select Preferences

Click the Connection tab

This is the main preferences window, where there are several options to choose from

Keep in mind though, that most of these options are pre-set by FlashFXP, and do not need to be changed

Therefore, only change those options which you know are safe to change…. and we’ll show you some of those now

If you wish, you can change the timeout, retry delay, and retry count settings here

Click the Options tab

Unless you really know what you’re doing, there isn’t anything you should change here

Click the Transfer tab

These settings are in place to help you avoid deleting files by accident, and should be left in the default settings

Select the Advanced tab

For the most part, the transfer mode should be left as auto, unless you’ve been given specific instructions to transfer files in either ACSII or Binary modes

Select the Sounds tab

You’ll typically want to have show hidden files selected, so that you can see all files including .htaccess files

Select the Display tab

With FlashFXP you have the ability to assign sound effects to specific events

To do so, simply select the event you want to assign a sound to…..

Then locate a sound file on your computer….. that’s it!

Click here

There are several display options you can choose that will customize the look and feel of FlashFXP to your liking

You can choose how to display files sizes as well

When finished, click OK

Select the View menu item

Then Options..

Click OK

Finally, you can change the entire look of your FlashFXP by modifying the colors

Now let’s learn how to manage our website files

The first thing we’re going to do is create a new folder (or directory) on the remote server

Click Create Directory

Type the name of the new folder here, then click OK

That’s all there is to it. Now let’s rename this new folder…

Select the folder to be renamed

Click Rename

Type the new name of the folder here

The new folder has been renamed

You can also rename files the same way as you rename folders

To delete a folder (or file) make sure it’s highlighted…

Select FolderOld

Then click Delete

The folder we just created, has been deleted

Now let’s learn how to change the permissions of a file

Select postinfo.html

Then click Properties

To change the file permissions, simply enter the new permissions value here by checking off the appropiate boxes below

Click OK

That’s it! Permissions for the file postinfo.html have been succesfully changed

The first thing we’re going to do is create a new folder (or directory) on the remote server

Type a name for the new folder here, then click OK

That’s all there is to it. Now let’s rename this new folder…..
